WASHINGTON – In response to the European Council and the European Parliament reaching a provisional agreement on the Data Governance Act, the Center for Data Innovation’s director Daniel Castro released the following statement:
Data is a fundamental building block of the digital economy, and the Data Governance Act will improve access to public and private sector data. Importantly, the DGA will establish a European Data Innovation Board, a key institutional reform that will help EU policymakers improve data quality and interoperability. While there are still important reforms necessary, such as to ensure organizations can share non-personal data outside the EU, moving forward with the DGA will strengthen the EU’s position in the digital economy.
