NASA and the Alaska Satellite Facility have released a new dataset that shows how the ground across North America has shifted over time—rising, sinking, or cracking due to earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, or the pumping of groundwater. The data comes from satellites that use radar to detect changes in the Earth’s surface, even when those changes are too small to see in regular images. Covering millions of small areas since 2016, the dataset includes places like the U.S. Southwest, northern Mexico, and the New York metro area.
