Researchers from the University of Notre Dame, the University of Iowa, and UNC Chapel Hill have created CampaignView, a public database of campaign text drawn from congressional candidates’ websites. Covering over 5,200 major-party U.S. House candidates from 2018 to 2022, the dataset includes more than 43,000 individual policy platform points and over 5,000 biographical narratives, all labeled by policy topic and linked to detailed metadata on candidates and elections. Collected in real-time shortly before each primary election, CampaignView aims to fill a gap in election research by making candidates’ issue agendas and self-presentation accessible to journalists, voters, and scholars.
