President Trump’s AI Executive Orders Will Advance US Goals of Global AI Dominance

WASHINGTON—In response to President Trump’s three new executive orders on artificial intelligence (AI), the Center for Data Innovation released this statement from Senior Policy Manager Hodan Omaar:

The Trump administration has hit the accelerator on AI, and the United States will reap the rewards of these new policies. The new AI action plan has two clear goals: to accelerate AI innovation at home and promote American AI globally. The latest executive orders advance both objectives.

Domestically, one executive order will make it easier to build data center infrastructure by streamlining permitting, unlocking access to federal land, and ensuring efficient environmental reviews. Another will use the power of the purse to encourage AI firms to prioritize the development of AI models that foster accuracy, scientific inquiry, and objectivity. Internationally, it strengthens U.S. exports of American AI technologies and standards by developing a comprehensive exports program that will provide financing tools, diplomatic assistance, and technical resources.

These actions will enable the United States to better compete with China. Faster build-out of data center infrastructure will lower costs for American AI companies. It will also allow the United States to make deals with foreign countries that focus less on closing U.S. shortfalls on data center infrastructure and more on reducing their reliance on Chinese systems. Promoting U.S. AI exports, especially by strengthening financing and confronting policies in other countries that make American AI less competitive, will open the door to more markets for U.S technology.

These executive orders show the Trump administration is serious about backing up its vision for global AI leadership with concrete actions. It should continue pressing forward to ensure the United States has the policies it needs to win the global AI race.
