Collecting Information for Dam Safety in India

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology have created a dataset covering the land, water, and climate conditions around more than 5,700 dams in India to support studies on dam safety and water management. The dataset includes six key categories—topography, geology, soil, land use and vegetation, climate, and human activity—and can be used to examine how environmental factors and human activity can shape the flow of water into each reservoir and affect dam performance. By providing a detailed view of the landscapes that sustain India’s dams, the dataset helps improve planning for water security, infrastructure resilience, and climate adaptation.
