The Genesis Mission Marks a Coherent National Push for Faster American Science

WASHINGTON—In response to President Trump’s new executive order launching the Genesis Mission to accelerate AI-enabled scientific innovation, the Center for Data Innovation released this statement from Senior Policy Manager Hodan Omaar:

With the Genesis Mission, the United States will make accelerating scientific discovery with AI a whole-of-government priority. Congress has already endorsed this agenda with the bipartisan American Science Acceleration Project, and now the administration has committed to the same direction. It’s a signal that the country is unified behind a shared goal: speeding up the scientific breakthroughs that fuel America’s prosperity, strengthen its security, and deliver real benefits to people’s lives.

China is increasingly pushing advanced AI into priority research areas—next-generation materials, computational biotechnology, intelligent manufacturing—with the clear intent of shrinking R&D cycles and converting basic research into commercial or strategic gains. Genesis gives the United States a credible way to modernize its own scientific engine and strengthen the production function of American science.

The payoff isn’t only about competition. A faster, more efficient research system will stretch every federal dollar further and cut years from development timelines. The gains will be enjoyed by the public: breakthroughs in energy, medicine, and materials reach people sooner, improving health outcomes, lowering costs, and strengthening the technologies Americans rely on every day.
