Researchers at the Santa Fe Institute have created a dataset that compiles historical versions of the U.S. Code—the federal government’s collection of laws—from 1926 to 2023. It includes accurate historical editions, tracks changes in wording and vocabulary, shows how titles and sections were organized over time, and maps the links between different laws. The result is a clear, detailed record of how the structure and content of federal statutes have changed.
