UK film archive British Pathé released its entire collection, numbering over 85,000 rare videos from the 20th century, on YouTube this week. The 3,500 hours of video document historical events, including both World Wars and the sinking of the Titanic, and will likely be a trove for historians and other scholars to mine. YouTube data sets have also been employed in computer vision and other machine learning applications. The archive was previously available on the British Pathé website, but the company hopes making it accessible for browsing and sharing will encourage broader viewership.
