Comments to Federal Trade Commission on Alternative Scoring Products

This spring, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) hosted a seminar on alternative scoring products, which many companies use to predict the likelihood of events from weather to purchasing decisions. The Center for Data Innovation submitted recommendations in response to a request for comment urging the FTC to avoid unnecessarily regulating this technology and the underlying data. Instead, it should work with businesses, consumers, and other stakeholders to identify unaddressed harmful uses of predictive analytics and narrowly restrict those uses.
