The Australian government has published its Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), a data set of the 13 million addresses in the country, as open data. G-NAF only contains anonymous data about addresses such as their longitude and latitude, not information about people or businesses associated with these addresses. Both the public and private sector can use the data in a variety of ways, including for emergency response, shipping, transportation, and mapping services. Until now, the government charged for access to this data.
