Measuring Canada’s Population

Canada’s census agency, Statistics Canada, has published the first batch of data from its 2016 Census, which measures the social, demographic, and economic characteristics of Canada’s population. Canada’s innovation minister reported that the 2016 Census had the most successful response rate in Canada’s history, thanks in part to policymakers reinstating the mandatory long-form census in 2015 after it was made voluntary in 2011, which reduced the quality of the data. This batch of data, one of seven batches Statistics Canada will release this year, focuses specifically on population counts and indicates that Canada is the fastest growing country in the G7.
