The United Nations’ (UN’s) data-focused innovation initiative Global Pulse has launched the Data for Climate Action Challenge to encourage environmentalists and data scientists to use data to combat climate change. The Data for Climate Action Challenge provides participants with datasets donated by the private sector that could provide insight into the relationships between human haviors—such as social media activity and traffic patterns—and climate change, and tasks them with developing research proposals to use the data to develop solutions related to climate mitigation, climate adaptation, and the UN’s climate-related Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline for proposal submissions is April 10, 2017.
