Algorithms and x-rays

The Stanford Machine Learning Group, a group of Stanford University researchers, has published MURA, a dataset of musculoskeletal radiographs, also known as x-rays, to foster the development of algorithms that can detect abnormalities in x-rays. The dataset includes 40,561 x-ray images of both normal and abnormal body parts from over 12,000 patients. Developing algorithms that can analyze x-rays could make diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis more accessible for populations that lack access to experienced radiologists.
