The Center for Data Innovation has filed comments with the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program about updating its 2016 National Artificial Intelligence Research & Development Strategic Plan. The United States is the global leader in developing and using artificial intelligence (AI), but it may not be for long. Other countries, such as China, France, and the United Kingdom have developed significant initiatives to challenge U.S. leadership in AI, while the U.S. government has not yet developed a comparable national AI strategy to address the challenges holding back greater adoption and use of AI in the United States. NITRD’s National AI R&D Strategic Plan is a valuable opportunity to help the United States maintain its competitive edge in the absence of a broader national AI strategy.
