Google has released an anonymized dataset of U.S. users’ searches on 400 medical symptoms or health conditions, such as a cough or fever, to better inform research on COVID-19. The dataset is aggregated by state and includes English and Spanish searches from the past three years. The dataset also includes how popular a search for a symptom is in a given day or week. With this information, researchers can study spikes in symptom-related searches to learn how the virus spread in different parts of the country.
