U.S. Department of the Treasury

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released a dataset that tracks the federal government’s total outstanding public debt. Total public debt is a sum of the debt that the federal government owes to entities outside of the federal government, such as debt owed to state governments, and the debt the federal government owes to government agencies, such as debt owed to the Environmental Protection Agency. The Treasury Department updates the dataset daily and includes data on outstanding public debt from 1993 to present day.
