AidData, a data research organization affiliated with the College of William & Mary, has released a dataset tracking China’s overseas development finance projects, which are government-funded grants given to foreign countries for economic and social development. The dataset contains information on 13,427 development projects in 165 countries around the world. According to the dataset, China spent $843 billion on development projects abroad from 2000 to 2017.
