The Bipartisan Policy Center, a think tank that promotes ideas from both sides of the political spectrum in the U.S. Congress, has created a dataset tracking congressional earmarks, which are funds members of Congress directly request for specific projects. The dataset contains information on project names included in the Fiscal Year 2022 spending bill, the amount of funds, the recipient, their location, the requesting lawmaker, and the lawmaker’s position and party affiliation. According to the data, Congress allocated the most earmarks to transportation, housing, and urban development projects, and the least to defense projects.
