Researchers at The Pudding, an online publication that creates visual essays, have created a dataset tracking individuals who appear on banknotes in 38 countries. The dataset consists of 241 individuals found on 236 circulating banknotes. It includes information on the subject’s name, gender, profession, first year on the banknote, and year deceased, as well as the value of the banknote they appear on. According to the dataset, 19 percent of individuals found on banknotes are writers, making the profession the most common to appear on a banknote.
