Engineers at MIT have designed a controller that lets trainees operate a virtual excavator by moving a miniature arm and bucket instead of learning complex joystick controls. The system mirrors users’ movements on a six-screen simulator, removing the mental translation normally required to coordinate the excavator’s arm and bucket. By matching the controls to the machine’s physical movements, the system aims to make training more intuitive.
