Teaching Robots to Feel

by David Kertai

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley have developed a tactile dataset to help robots improve how they handle objects. The dataset contains 100 hours of high-quality recordings of how objects feel when touched, paired with demonstrations of actions like grasping, twisting, wiping, and pouring across more than 200 household objects. The data could help robots use touch alongside vision to handle complex tasks with greater precision.
