Researchers at IBM and NASA have created a lunar dataset to train a new foundation model for Moon exploration. The dataset contains more than 30 layers of maps and images from nine instruments, including cameras and radars, across four missions, aligning the data so the AI model can analyze them together. By enabling richer analysis of ice, volcanic features, and craters, the dataset aims to help accelerate future lunar mapping and mission planning.
