Tracking Poor Conditions in Healthcare Facilities

BuzzFeed News has created two datasets tracking conditions in intermediate care facilities (ICF), which are residential facilities for patients with intellectual or developmental disabilities, in states with at least 50 for-profit ICFs: California, Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and West Virginia. The first dataset lists the name, owner, address, and number of beds in each facility. The second dataset contains information from state inspections, including the type of inspection, the number of deficiencies found, and the types of deficiencies. The dataset accompanies a report in which BuzzFeed News alleged that KKR, a U.S.-based private equity firm that owns 16 percent of ICFs in the seven states, received 40 percent of inspection citations.
