Researchers at the University of Colorado, Boulder have created a dataset tracking educational backgrounds for tenure-track faculty at universities that grant Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in the United States. The dataset contains information for over 295,000 tenure-track faculty employed at 368 universities from 2011 to 2020, and lists the institution and year each professor received their PhD, their faculty rank, and their gender when available. According to the dataset, over one in eight faculty received their PhDs from Harvard, University of Michigan, the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, or the University of Wisconsin.
