The White House Issues New Export Controls for AI
The Biden administration has created a new framework for controlling exports of advanced chips and AI model weights. The rule implements a three-tiered system that provides unrestricted access for 18 key allies, imposes significant restrictions on sales to countries of concern, and establishes limits on the export of chips to the rest of the world. The new requirements also direct AI firms to establish additional security measures.

President Biden Signs Executive Order to Boost U.S. Leadership in Building AI Infrastructure
President Biden has issued an Executive Order on Advancing United States Leadership in AI Infrastructure. The order aims to ensure that advanced AI development and operations occur within the United States, safeguarding national security, supporting economic competitiveness, and reducing reliance on foreign infrastructure. It directs the Departments of Energy and Defense to designate federal sites for AI data centers powered by clean energy while adhering to principles of affordability, sustainability, and high labor standards.
