Senate Working Group Releases AI Policy Roadmap

The bipartisan Senate AI working group, consisting of Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Todd Young (R-IND), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and Mike Rounds (R-SD), released a roadmap for AI policy in the United States. Hodan Omaar, senior policy manager at the Center, released a statement on why this helps set America on the right course.

Senate Rules Committee Clears Three AI Bills

The Senate Rules Committee advanced three election-related AI bills—Protect Elections from Deceptive AI Act, AI Transparency in Elections Act of 2024, and Preparing Election Administrators for AI Act—for full consideration on the Senate floor. The legislation would ban AI-generated deep fake videos or audio materials of federal election candidates, require disclosure statements for AI-generated campaign materials, and task the U.S. Election Assistance Commission with creating guidelines for election officials on how to use AI in administering elections.
