Senators Introduce Bill Regulating Federal Procurement of AI Systems

U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) have introduced the Promoting Responsible Evaluation and Procurement to Advance Readiness for Enterprise-wide Deployment (PREPARED) for AI Act, which requires federal agencies to classify their AI uses based on risk and to identify, test, and monitor potential risks before, during, and after buying AI tools. The bill also requires government contracts for AI capabilities to include safety and security terms for data ownership, civil rights, civil liberties, and privacy.

Senator Lee Is Circulating Draft Bill to Ban FCC From AI Rulemaking

Axios reported that U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) is circulating a draft bill that would prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from making new rules regarding disclosure of AI-generated content in political ads on TV and radio. Sen. Lee has not yet introduced the bill.
