Representative Brown Introduces Bill to Protect Elections from Deception
Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH) introduced the Securing Elections from AI Deception Act in the House of Representatives ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. The bill prohibits developers and deployers of AI systems from intentionally defrauding individuals of their right to vote in elections and requires disclaimers on AI-generated content. It directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to treat violations of this Act as unfair or deceptive acts or practices under the Federal Trade Commission Act, and those found in violation may be fined, imprisoned for up to one year, or both.
