Researchers at the European Commission’s Joint Research Center have created the European Drought Observatory (EDO) database to track droughts across Europe. The dataset includes maps of precipitation, soil moisture, and drought stress on vegetation in Europe. The open-source maps are updated every 10 days and combine data from satellite observations, hydrological models, and on-site testing, making them more reliable than existing drought-tracking databases. These insights help public and private actors improve drought preparedness and mitigation efforts in a timely manner.
