The Pudding has created a data visualization illustrating the proximity of urban areas in the United States to abortion clinics, highlighting the high number of cities with few nearby accessible abortion clinics. The visualization shows that there are 151 urban areas without accessible clinics within a one hour round-trip drive, and four urban areas without an accessible clinic within an eight hour round-trip drive. Another visualization shows how the accessibility of abortion clinics is further limited depending on how many weeks pregnant a woman is, as different kinds of clinics and different state laws restrict the amount of options available. For example, despite being legal for a woman to get an abortion at 20 weeks pregnant in the majority of states, reaching a clinic that can perform the procedure would take over 12 hours of driving for women in many urban areas.
