Visualizing Diversity in U.S. Newsrooms

newsroom diversity

Google News Lab, design firm Polygraph, and the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) have created a data visualization illustrating the changes in gender and racial diversity of newsrooms in the United States over time. The visualization uses data from ASNE and the American Community Survey to compare the differences between newsrooms in 2001 and newsrooms in 2017. Users can analyze gender and racial diversity by individual newsrooms, for the industry as a whole, and for leadership roles. ASNE has also published a detailed analysis of the data.
