Visualizing the Financial Stress of Firms in the United States

Reuters has created several data visualizations illustrating the mounting debt and financial stress of U.S. companies. One visualization shows that corporate debt as a percentage of gross domestic product surpassed consumer debt for the first time in almost 30 years in 2019. Another visualization shows that the financial stress of U.S. firms, a measure of stock values, creditworthiness, funding availability, cash flows, and market volatility, is at its highest level since 2009.
