The New York Times has created a series of visualizations depicting the housing shortage in the United States. The visualizations show areas with housing surpluses as shades of purple and areas with housing shortages as shades of brown. One visualization compares housing surpluses and shortages in 2012 to surpluses and shortages in 2019, and shows that housing shortages have increased in that time frame.
