The New York Times has created a series of visualizations displaying the amount of carbon dioxide the average household in each census tract in U.S. major metropolitan areas emits. The visualizations show census tracts with high levels of emissions as orange and tracts with lower levels of emissions as green. For each tract, the visualizations show the tract’s emissions based on their location and average income, as location can impact residents’ travel times, energy requirements, and more, while incomes affect residents’ consumption and travel patterns.
