The Washington Post has created a series of interactive visualizations illustrating how climate change will affect the location of tree species in the United States. One visualization shows how the geographic ranges that are most suitable for existing tree species to grow will shift northward as temperatures increase. For example, by 2099, temperatures in Washington, D.C. might become too hot for current tree species but suitable for trees currently found in the southwest and northern Mexico.
