A data visualization on spending before and after the COVID-19 pandemic

The Economist has created a series of visualizations comparing in-person spending before and after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. One visualization shows the times of the day people spent money in an average week, with spending in November 2019 appearing as a red line and spending in November 2022 appearing as a blue line. According to the visualization, after the lockdowns ended, spending during the morning and weekday nights decreased and spending during weekend days increased, which may be explained due to remote work trends and restaurant and bar closures during the pandemic.
