The Washington Post has created a series of visualizations tracking the number of jump scares in movies. One visualization compares the number of jump scares per minute in movies with the number in their remakes released from 1950 to 2003, 2003 to 2012, and 2013 to 2021. According to the visualization, most remakes historically feature more jump scares than the original movie; however, every remake since 2020 has featured a decrease in jump scares.
