The Washington Post has created a visualization comparing global temperatures in 2023 with average temperatures from 1880 to 1899. It shows areas that experienced an increase in temperature as shades of red and orange, with darker shades indicating higher temperatures. According to the visualization, over 40 percent of the Earth experienced an increase of at least 1.5 degrees Celsius, which is above the benchmark set in the 2015 Paris climate agreement to avoid more drastic consequences of global warming.
