Bloomberg News has created a visualization depicting the correlation between the political leanings of counties by state and their respective share of refugees and asylum seekers who settled there since 2023. The newspaper used immigration court data on 1.8 million arrivals that Syracuse University recently obtained. According to the visualization, new immigrants in swing states, shown in yellow, and across the country in general, are settling in counties that voted for President Joe Biden in 2020. For example, in Michigan, a battleground state for the upcoming 2024 presidential election, 78 percent of new immigrants settled in counties that voted for the Democratic Party, although counties that voted for the Republican Party are more likely to suffer from labor force shortages.
