Tracking Rising Electricity Costs

U.S.-based research organization, the Institute for Energy Research, has created a visual that compares the growth of data centers with electricity‑price changes across U.S. states from 2015 to 2025. The graphic combines federal electricity‑price data with state‑level counts of data centers, revealing that states did not experience faster increases in electric costs relative to the number of data centers. Circle size represents each state’s number of data centers, with Virginia leading the nation, while color shading highlights electricity‑price trends, blue for states where prices rose faster than the national average and red for those where increases stayed below it.
