The Los Angeles Times has mapped data on the location of Los Angeles County’s homeless population—an estimated 44,359 people in total. The data comes from a January 2015 survey conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, a joint city-county agency, to tally the homeless population. The points on the map correspond to homeless individuals, makeshift shelters, and lived-in vehicles, found in the 1,684 census tracts, but a point’s specific location within a tract is randomized to protect privacy.
