The New York Times has released a series of visualizations depicting the severity of the drought crisis in the American West. The graphics show the percentage of land experiencing drought conditions in Western states and the severity of the drought. One visualization shows maps of drought conditions in early June for the past 21 years. According to this map, the American southwest is experiencing its worst drought season since 2000.
