The Washington Post has created a series of visualizations illustrating Internet speeds in the United States. One visualization compares Internet speeds with carrier pigeon speeds for sending information 100 miles away, and shows at which Internet speeds and data sizes people should use a carrier pigeon instead of the Internet. According to the visualization, carrier pigeons could transport hour-long videos or 2,000 photos faster than the Internet, if the latter operates at 10 or less megabits per second.
