The Visual Capitalist has created a visualization depicting how the world’s least peaceful countries—most of which are active conflict zones—have ranked between 2020 and 2024 using the global peace index from the Institute for Economics and Peace, a Sydney-based research institute. Every year, the institute quantifies 23 different metrics essential to peace in a country, such as the number of deaths from active conflict, political instability, and the rate of militarization. According to the visualization, Ukraine and Russia have climbed the list in recent years, but Middle Eastern and African countries continue to be among the least peaceful countries in the world, with Yemen climbing to the top for the first time this year.
