The New York Times has created a series of maps visualizing wildfire and smoke risk for the different parts of Los Angeles County, where several devastating wildfires have been ravaging since early January. The newspaper used wildfire risk scores data from CoreLogic, a California-based business and property analytics company, and spatial data from the SILVIS Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to depict how high the risk of wildfires or negative impacts from smoke is in each neighborhood. Green shades indicate lower risk and red-purple shades show higher risk. Neighborhoods in hills and coastal areas, even if they are not in the immediate vicinity of the Palisades fire, are at extreme risk.
